LORAC Multi-Platinum Palette Review

LORAC has just released a new goodie for the fall - the Multi-Platinum Palette.

Two words for you: beyond hot.

Seriously. LORAC does some amazing things with palettes - witness my love for their famous Snake Charmer, now finally re-released. The colors are always beautifully coordinated, the textures of the powders are amazing and the price tags don't make your heart stop. The Multi-Platinum Palette is no exception to the high standards I've come to expect and, in fact, it ups the ante significantly.

It's hard to capture just how beautiful the exterior is. It's almost like snakeskin, though the pattern is more subtle, with a metallic finish. I wish I had purses as pretty as this. It opens to reveal six well-sized eyeshadows and a blush nestled in silver mesh. Without even swatching anything, I could tell that the colors would be perfect. And I was right, there's not a loser among them, be it shade or texture.Though the packaging is distinctly cool-toned, and there is a preponderance of silver and gray, I think the colors here are widely useable. You could do anything from a simple metallic day look to a very dramatic smoky eye.

There's a lot to work with here: a nearly-matte but buttery cream, a shimmery pale bronze, a warm, luminescent dove gray, an absolutely stunning dirty teal (my favorite, if you couldn't guess), a deep pewter and a starry black (one of the few glittery blacks that doesn't create massive fallout - though there is some - and manages to remain sparkly). The blush is described as a cool pink, but to my eye this is almost a peachy pink, shot through with gold. It gives Nars Orgasm a run for her money.

Like all Lorac palettes, the texture of these powders is sublime. Super soft, pigmented and easily blended out, they're a dream to work with, even something as notoriously temperamental as a glittery black.

In some ways it reminds me of the Sephora Zebra palette I reviewed earlier, with its mix of wearable neutrals and that pop of teal. For 26$ versus 37$, it might be worth your while to look at that one instead if budget is a concern. However, the Multi-Platinum does come with a blush - a fabulous one at that - and the packaging is admittedly snazzier. And despite my affection for the Zebra palette, I will say that the LORAC version is probably more versatile and universally flattering, and the quality of the powders is a step above.

Some of the shades are available separately - the slate grey is called Dreamy and the light bronze is Serenity. If those are the only ones that float your boat, then so be it, but this palette is just so wearable and perfectly coordinated, and available for such a reasonable price that it would be a shame to pass it up. I guarantee you'll be kicking yourself when it sells out.

Available from Sephora store and online, for 37$ USD and 44$ CAD.
